Mario Vrancic officially eligible for call up

After months of paperwork, Mario Vrancic is now officially eligible for a call up to the Bosnian national team after receiving his Bosnian citizenship today.

Vrancic, who was born in Croatia and raised in Germany, was eligible for Bosnia due to his parents originating from there.

Due to FIFA rules, however, Vrancic was not eligible to play for Bosnia before submitting the right paperwork. After that, which could take a while to gather, it went through a judging process where FIFA determined if he was in fact eligible to play for Bosnia.

This process of switching sports nationalities is nothing new to Bosnia, who have a habit of recruiting players from the Diaspora that were raised in other countries.

Vrancic, who is a defensive minded midfielder and who plays for Bundesliga side Paderborn, would make an excellent addition to our already crowded midfield, even if only for depth reasons. As Bosnia has learned the hard way, you can never have too much depth due to injuries and other factors.

Mario will most likely be called up by new coach Mehmed Bazdarevic as soon as Bosnia's next matches against Andorra and Austria at the end of March.

For the friendly against Austria, Mario could very easily earn a start next to fellow central midfielders Muhamed Besic and Miralem Pjanic as Bazdarevic tries to find the formation that will work best for him.
