Bosnia loses in final match at World Championships

The Bosnian national handball team finished 20th at the 2015 Handball World Championships after today's 28:42 loss to a strong Russian side.

During the first 8 minutes of the game, both teams kept trading goals and the biggest lead either team had was only 1 goal.

Then, Russia ended up reaching its' first 2 goal lead of the game (6:8), which Bosnia answered with 3 straight goals to give themselves a 9:8 lead.

However, it was in the last 10 minutes of our half that our defense completely fell apart, as Russia scored 10 goals in that span to give themselves a 16:20 lead. Once again, our team looked like they had already checked out from this World Cup after that devastating loss against Tunisia.

When the second half got underway, Bosnia looked like it may actually make this a close game until the end, as Ivan Karacic scored 2 straight goals. The Russians, however, had other plans as they managed to maintain a two or three goal advantage by capitalizing on our many errors on offense.

It was 10 minutes into the 2nd half that the Russians earned their first five goal lead of the game (20:25), and then never looked back. Our team had evidently already thrown in the towel, as 5 minutes later the Russian lead was stretched to 9 goals (21:30).

Even though Dragan Markovic tried to gather his men at this point with a time-out, it came to no avail as the Russian counter attacks simply kept mounting. The end of the game was relatively quiet, with both teams ready to go home after the result already seemed set, as it ended with a 28:42 scoreline.
