The Swedish national born in Zenica talks about both club and international football with Croatian website Vecernji List.
Born in Zenica, Bosnia & Herzegovina at the outset of the Bosnian War, Branimir's parents moved to Sweden, where the young Hrgota first began playing football.
Currently, Branimir plays in Germany for Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach, where he's already been for two years now. Now, in about a week, he will be making his way back into Bosnia, this time playing against FK Sarajevo in the final stage of the Europa League Qualifiers.
Your club is soon playing against Sarajevo. What do you think about this new challenger in Europe?
I don't wish to offend any of the Sarajevo players, of whom I've heard great things, but looking at things realistically, we are the better team. We had a little rough start for this Europa League campaign due to injuries, but nothing is too serious so I hope it won't affect us too much. Regardless, I am looking forward to coming to Sarajevo. I'd also like to send my best regards to all football lovers in Bosnia.
What are your personal ambitions on this season?
I have huge ambitions, but I don't wish to dwell on that too much, as last season I also had a great preseason, but I didn't end up playing many games because they felt my behavior was unprofessional when I tried a "panenka" in one of the games. But I feel good and I have a manager and family that believes in me, so I believe this will be a good season for me.
You are currently a Swedish youth international, but you also have a chance to play for Croatia and Bosnia. Who would you like to play for in the future?
I am currently fully focused on my tasks with Monchengladbach. If I play well and consistent for my club, I can hope for call ups from national teams. But to be honest, I still haven't decided who I would play for. When the time comes, I will make my decision.
